Along with this growth have come many new services and activities providing vital information, assistance and creative programs. The Library takes pleasure in presenting this community guide which it hopes will put our senior citizens in touch with these many special services

Patchogue-Medford Library Programs and Resources 

Books and Magazines:

For reading pleasure and information including large print and books on cassette.

  

The Library has more than 3,000 large print books, designed for the ease of reading. The collection also contains newly published best sellers. Our bi-monthly Newsletter can be printed in large print by request.

 

Homebound / Outreach Services: The Patchogue-Medford Library provides a homebound/outreach service for our district residents who are unable to come into the library or do not have relatives or friends available to help them. Books are picked out by librarians, based on the patron's interests, and delivered by mail.

Free Blood Pressure Testing:
on the 2nd Tuesday of each month between 10 a.m. and 12 noon.
AARP 55 Alive / Mature Driving Course:
Designed to meet the needs of older drivers (50 or older). As available. Call for 654-7000 for registration details.
Senior Advocate from the Suffolk County Office of the Aging:

information and referrals about Lifelines, food stamps, senior ID, HEAP, and IT214 forms. The advocate is available every other month, call the library, 654-7000, for days and times.

 

Senior Resource Area: A location near the Side Entrance specifically designed for our senior population. Includes reference and circulating books, magazines, videos, flyers and brochures, health and financial letters.
Computer Basics One-On-One: Need assistance with learning the basics of computers, such as: using the mouse and keyboard, sending e-mail, getting on the Internet, and copying and saving material? Sign up for assistance with our savvy senior tutor. For app’t call 654-4700 X242
Blood Pressure Screening:  A free program to keep track of a person’s blood pressure numbers. The second Tuesday of each month from 10a.m.-12noon.

Star Program: A New York state funded Star Exemption from school taxes for seniors.
Social Security Administration: Social security is more than just retirement. Many get SS because they are disabled, are a spouse or dependent of someone who gets SS, a widow or widower, or a child of a deceased worker. The site contains forms, benefit information, disability information, and contains a Spanish language version.
