Central Library Services for Libraries
The Central Library provides a number of services to the public libraries of Suffolk County.
Reference Service. The librarians at the Central Library are available to assist libraries in providing reference service. Our subject specialists may be contacted by member libraries to provide help in their areas of expertise.
Interlibrary Loan. In addition to normal Interlibrary Loans, the Central Library will interloan reference materials (except law, genealogy, local history, and reference song books) to Suffolk County public libraries for 3-day in-library use by their patrons. The Central Library also interloans test preparation and civil service study guides.
Collection Services. Subject specialists from the Central Library are available to visit Suffolk County libraries and assist with collection assessment and development. Areas presently available include reference, non-fiction, business, law, health, science, military history, local history, genealogy and Spanish outreach. Tours and Visits. In order to help librarians throughout the county to become familiar with Central Library resources and collections, the library offers a morning tour of the Library for librarians. These are scheduled several times a year. Librarian tours are also available upon request, contact June Cerveny at 654-4700 ext 231.
Workshops.Central Library reference specialists are available to teach genealogy, law, health and other database workshops at Suffolk County libraries, for staff, or as a public program. Call or e-mail the subject specialist to make arrangements.
